Approximately 6,000
professionals work in the downtown area each weekday. And approximately
$60 million dollars have been invested in the city of Clarksburg
through private and public projects in progress. These include the
new Fairmount State College-Clarksburg Campus accommodating 2,500
students in the state-of-the-art learning center. |

| A major boost to the
Clarksburg economy came from the 986-acre FBI Criminal Justice and
Information Services Fingerprint Identification Division Complex
within the city. This complex is the headquarters of all digital
fingerprints in the United States and employs nearly 3,000 but excluding
the many support industries that continue to emerge around it. |
The city’s 800-acre industrial park (Harrison County Business
and Technology Center), is creating opportunities for new or expanding
business industries in the area . Currently, Winfield Industries, Thrasher
Engineering, Columbia Gas and Unifirst Corporation are located in the
center. The center is served by CSX Railroad and strategically located
adjacent to 179 and US Route 50.
The medical community in
Clarksburg is strong and continues to grow. The areas only hospital
complex, United Hospital Center, is located in Clarksburg along Route
20. The hospital supports 90 physicians and nearly 500 nurses. In addition,
Clarksburg has over 50 medical private practice and clinic locations
throughout the city. Also, the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration
Medical Center serves veterans from 26 counties in West Virginia and
portions of three adjacent states.
